Over the past decade, IPF has evolved from our first home in Andover, MA to become one of the North Shore's most well-respected, innovative, and successful athlete and adult training facilities. Here are some highlights of our journey:
Winter 2016-Present
U.S. Women’s National Ice Hockey Team selects Walter to become their strength and conditioning coach and they begin training at IPF with our team of coaches.
Winter 2016/2017
Walter continues his long history of coaching in professional soccer (Boston Breakers, New England Revolution) as NWSL stars and founders of SportingChic.com, Sam Mewis, Kristie Mewis, and Steph McCaffrey, train during their off-season at IPF.
2016 - Present
Walter, who previously served as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for both the Boston University Men’s Hockey program and the NHL Boston Bruins, becomes the Strength and Conditioning Coach for Harvard University Women’s Ice Hockey program.
December 2011 - Present
Each year, IPF holds a members-only workout that raises thousands of dollars for the MSPCA at Nevin’s Farm, an animal shelter and veterinary hospital in Methuen, MA.

IPF wins Northshore Magazine’s Best of the North Shore Editor’s Choice for Best Training Facility five consecutive years.
Winter 2016
The Boston Globe does a feature on Walter and recognizes him as the trainer behind Ben Affleck’s bulked up Batman Body.
Fall 2015
Walter and Liz along with IPF adult group training clients, Wayne Puglisi and Mark Ciccarelli, film a cameo in Batman VS. Superman starring Ben Affleck.
Fall 2015
Walter, Liz, and Jamie, along with IPF adult group training clients Wayne Puglisi and Mark Ciccarelli, get all fancied up for their cameo in Live By Night starring and directed by Ben Affleck.
Fall 2013
IPF moves into their current 10,000 sq. ft., state-of-the-art training and fitness facility in North Reading, MA.
Winter 2012
Walter works out LeBron James, Chris Paul, Dwayne Wade, Carmelo Anthony, and other NBA stars at Nike training camp.
Fall 2011
Walter trains Ben Affleck in L.A. to prepare him for his role as a CIA agent in Argo and brings IPF coaches, Jamie and Liz, with him to shoot a scene in the movie that Affleck also directed. Argo would go on to win an Academy Award for Best Picture.
Summer 2009
IPF coaches have a blast as extras in the movie The Town, filmed in Boston, MA, which Ben Affleck co-wrote, directed and starred in.
Spring 2009
Walter begins his long journey (10 movies in seven years) of training Ben Affleck and Jen Garner while Affleck is filming and directing the critically acclaimed movie, The Town.
Winter 2007- Spring 2008
Walter served as the Boston Celtic’s strength and conditioning coach for five years, including their 2008 NBA Championship season.
Summer 2007
Walter opens The Institute of Performance & Fitness (IPF) in Andover, MA bringing to life his vision for a more personal environment with structured training programs for athletes and non-athletes from all different backgrounds and levels of ability.
