9 Things You Should Be Doing, and Doing Well! Success is rarely an Accident
1) You Should be Sleeping >7hrs, + You Should be Tracking It!
Simply Put, Not Only the Biggest “Boost”, but also the least adhered to “Rule” in the Game!
At this point, If You Don’t Know, You Don’t Know (or “Get It”) …
2) You Should Be Drinking more Water!
Simple, Straightforward, and often a Pain in the Glutes. Opinions vary on Volume, but Drinking Half of Your Bodyweight in Ounces is a great place to start:
Example BW=180lbs, Drink >90ounces
3) You should be Moving Frequently + You Should Have a Plan!
Schedule your Workouts before the Week begins.
Be Consistent with your Approach: Slow Improvements, with a gradual Build, and Developing a Process are all Keys to Success…
Every “Smart” Watch has a Step-Tracker or grab a Pedometer, so you can have an Idea of your Movement and know your Habits!
4) You Should be Learning to Cook and Eating at Home!
The deeper your Cooking Library is, the more likely you are to Eat at Home, Eat Real Food, and Improve Food Quality…
Maybe the Single Greatest Nutritional Skill that Leads to Success: Knowing (and Expanding) How to Cook Well…
5) You Should be Varying Your Goal(s)!
We call this “Success within Success”
There are many Methods to “Improvement”, particularly with your Body, and staying on the Same Path for all of your Journey is a Mistake.
Same Diet, Mistake. Same Exercises, Mistake. Same Attitude, Mistake. Same Goal, Biggest Mistake!
Your Health can have so many Strengths, but they all require Attention. What Gets Love, Gets Better!
Fitness, Strength, Mobility, Body Composition, Rehabilitation from Injury or Patterning, Specific Performance Goals, Climbing a Mountain, Swimming the Channel, Playing a Sport, Returning to Play, Awareness of Family History, Traumatic Injury, Attitude of Achievement… I could Go On and On!
3-4 Months of a New “Focus” will also incrementally build your Overall Goal… Vary the Goal Baby!
6) You Should be Doing Something “Different” to Build your “Consistent!”
Our “consistent” is what We Do to Feel Good: Exercise, Sleep, Eat, Socialize, and Communicate… We do most of these regularly, but we also tend to repeat the same things.
The Concept of Doing One Thing to Build Another has been around for decades, but it is difficult for People to Try New Things based on a Fixed Mind-Set.
Want to Exercise (or Just Feel) Better? Try Soft-Tissue Work (Massage), Get in the Sauna, Go for more Walks at Low-Intensity, Join a Gym, Personal Train, etc…
Want to Sleep Better? Build a Bedtime Process, Get a Better Pillow, Know your Best Temperature, Add some White/Brown Noise, Read Before Bed (Book not Computer), No Electronics for 1hr before Bed, etc., …
Want to Eat Better? Take a Cooking Class, Try 1 New Recipe each week, Eat more Vegetables, Try New Vegetables, Limit Eating “Out” to 1-2x weekly, etc,..
Want to Socialize or Communicate Better? Make Plans with Friends, Visit or Host Family more frequently, Read more (to Discuss or Improve), Take a Class, Join a Club, Volunteer your Time, Learn a New Skill/Language, Be “Present” for your Family, Put Your Goddamn Phone Down, etc, …
7) You Should Stop Letting Your Mind/Attitude Stop You or Your Body from “Better” or “New”…
Simply Put, the only thing that Limits You, is What You Believe You Can Achieve…
Start Doing Today by Changing Your Mind-Set (How You Think), and Your Attitude (How You Display those Thoughts) will Follow…
Action Wins Baby, it Always Has and Always Will…
8) You Should be Asking for Help!
It may sound simple, but Your (or “The”) Struggle is often shared by many others. Asking someone, a Friend, a Family Member, a “Professional” in a given Field, or an anonymous phone number that starts the conversation is something that will facilitate “Better”…
We all have Areas of Concern, we have Fears of the Unknown, and we all could Benefit from some Help in a part of our Lives.
Ask for Help. It’s easier to find than you think, and chances are, you will be Glad You Asked!
9) You Should be Asking to Help!
What Better Way is there to be “Of Value”, than to Offer, and Help, Someone Else…
Whether you Believe that it is your Moral Obligation, Civic Duty or just have seen someone “In Need”, an Offer of Assistance is a wonderful thing. We have a saying at IPF, that the Greatest Ability in the World is that which Makes those Around You Better, and that is a Decision and an Action…
Ask to help someone Today, and even the “Little Things” you help with can lead to Huge Improvements and Opportunities…
